Industrial Chests
When your goal is a mid-century or modern theme in the bedroom, adding industrial furniture certainly helps to set the tone. With mainly even, straight lines that are aesthetically pleasing, industrial chests of drawers and other furniture are subtle, easily blending in and complementing existing furniture. With many different designs, such as two and three drawer chests of drawers and open-ended shelves, you’re able to easily furnish your bedroom to make it your sanctuary, and one of the most comfortable rooms in the home. Another unique touch to add when it comes to outfitting your bedroom is a platform bed frame. A platform bed is particularly useful, especially if you’re a little short on space or if you simply prefer a minimalist design. Platform bed frames often come with storage underneath, allowing you extra room for intimates, socks and other needs, in lieu of placing another bedside table or small chest of drawers in your space. A platform bed also adds an open-air feel to the bedroom, which in contrast, can actually make it feel cozier.
A modern bed frame is another excellent choice as well, with many different designs and colour combinations to choose from. Opt for a luxe, upholstered look, or a straight-lined frame, with plenty of room underneath the bed for storage, shoes or other necessities. When you’re thinking about a new bed frame, it’s a common misconception that everything needs to match. You can opt for a white or off-white bed frame and add a wooden chest of drawers or bedside table in a different colour. Rugs and window treatments can also be different colours entirely. If you are trying to make a small bedroom appear more open, however, stick to lighter shades to make the room appear bigger.
Depending on space, you may want to add some other pieces of mid-century bedroom furniture to complete the look. Wardrobes and chifforobes are often great additions, particularly if you need an extra bit of closet space in which to hang dresses, suits and other formal clothes. Adding a bench or an footstool to the end of the bed is always a nice touch. This allows you extra room to get ready in the morning, or a comfortable bench to decorate with throws and cushions. A corner rocker complete with footstool is also a comfortable addition to your mid-century bedroom.
